Here is why she quit the film and was replaced by Rashmika Mandanna.
Parineeti Chopra’s Initial Casting in Animal
Animal is a crime thriller film directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and produced by Anil Kapoor, Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani, and Krishan Kumar. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as the protagonist, a ruthless criminal who has a strained relationship with his father, played by Anil Kapoor. The film also features Bobby Deol, Tripti Dimri, Saloni Batra, Shakti Kapoor, and Suresh Oberoi in supporting roles. The film was released on December 1, 2023, and received positive reviews from critics and audiences.

The film was first announced in January 2021, with Parineeti Chopra’s name included in the cast list. She was supposed to play the role of Geetanjali, a woman who understands Ranbir’s character more than his parents do. She was also expected to sing a song for the film, as she had done in her previous films. However, a year later, it was reported that Parineeti had walked out of the film due to date issues.
Parineeti Chopra’s Exit from Animal
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama1, Parineeti Chopra had to quit Animal because she had to get into the prep work immediately for Imtiaz Ali’s Chamkila, a biopic on the legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. The report quoted a source as saying, “She has to get into prep immediately for the shoot (of Chamkila), and unfortunately due to this development, she won’t be able to shoot for Animal as there is a major overlap of dates between the two films.” Parineeti chose Chamkila over Animal, as she was more excited about playing the role of the singer’s wife, Amarjot Kaur.
However, another report by M9 News2 claimed that Parineeti Chopra was not suitable for the role of Geetanjali, and that the director Sandeep Reddy Vanga decided to replace her. The report said that Sandeep was not happy with Parineeti’s performance and screen presence, and that he wanted someone who could match Ranbir’s intensity and charisma. The report also said that Parineeti was disappointed with this development, but she had to accept the director’s decision.
Parineeti Chopra’s Reaction to the Replacement
Parineeti Chopra did not confirm or deny any of the reports, and maintained a dignified silence on the matter. She only said that she had to make choices that were right for her, and that she was not bothered by the rumours. In an interview with India Today3, she said, “These things happen, it is part and parcel of life. We must make such choices every day. You make the choice that is right for you.” She also wished the team of Animal all the best, and said that she was looking forward to watching the film.
Rashmika Mandanna’s Entry in Animal
Rashmika Mandanna is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Telugu and Kannada films. She made her Bollywood debut with Mission Majnu (2021), opposite Sidharth Malhotra. She was announced as the new leading lady of Animal in November 2021, and received a warm welcome from the cast and crew. She played the role of Geetanjali, and also sang a song for the film. She received mixed reactions from the audience, as some praised her performance and chemistry with Ranbir, while others criticized her dialogue delivery and accent.
Parineeti Chopra is one of the most talented and versatile actresses in the Indian film industry. She has proved her mettle in various genres and roles, and has also showcased her singing skills. However, she missed the opportunity to be a part of Animal, a film that has been hailed as one of the best films of the year. Whether she quit the film due to date issues or was replaced by the director, only she knows the truth. However, she has moved on from the episode, and is focusing on her upcoming projects, such as Chamkila, Mira, and Saina. We respect her choice and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.
